On Friday, January 20th, CDS took on opponent BISC in a non-conference match. The game wound up to be more competitive than expected as BISC proved early on with their size and speed that they would be a worthy opponent. CDS was short-handed on the day, missing four players due to injury and three to personal reasons, leaving the team with just seven active players to start the game. That would change in the 3rd quarter when sophomore SF Eric Kang sprained his ankle and consequently is expected to miss 1-2 weeks of basketball activity. The problem was compounded further when sophomore PF Danny Lee fouled out of the game in the 4th quarter, leaving the team with just five players, two of which only had one foul remaining! With the tie scored 50-50 and just one minute remaining in the game freshman SG Ricky Kim, assisted by captain sophomore PG Phillip Yoon and with ice water in his veins, buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Phoenix the lead. With a three point lead, and attacking on the fast break Phillip Yoon found sophomore sophomore G/F/C Jace Kang with a beautiful pass for a lay-up and then sophomore SG Ryan Park for a lay-up on the very next possession. Phillip Yoon capped off the game be stealing the ball on BISC final possession- finishing with 6 steals, 7 rebounds, 10 assists, and 13 points in a great all-around performance. Leading the team in scoring was Ryan Park with 21 points, a new career high. CDS has now won 4 games in a row and will take the court next vs. Chadwick at home on February 1st.
