"Dear CDS Artists,
It's only one week away, Your bus permission slip is due Monday, October 30th!
On Sunday, November 5th Yongsan International School (YISS) will be hosting the PREVIEW International Portfolio Review Forum for high school art students.
At this event representatives from over fifteen of the top art and design universities in the US (Parsons, CalArts, MICA, etc…) and Europe will be visiting Korea to review the portfolios of high school students.
This event strongly recommended for any high school students who are interested in pursuing art, architecture, or design. Students have the opportunity to bring portfolios of their best and most recent artwork to be reviewed and discussed with representatives. Not only is is an excellent opportunity to meet and speak with these universities directly, but it is a valuable experience for any young artist to receive critical feedback on their work.
A one-way bus will depart CDS at 10:00am to take students directly to YISS. Taking the bus is optional, and requires a permission slip to be filled out (found below). Students who live in Seoul may choose to head directly to YISS as it is not required to come to CDS first. Students must take their own transportation home from YISS, as there will not be a bus in the evening. This permission

If you are interested in attending the event, please follow through on the procedures below:
Our MAP testing for Fall is now complete and the results are now in. Individual results will be issued to students over the next week but the general results follow the pattern of the last 2 years and indicate that we do extremely well in Math. We are seen to struggle with reading as we enter 9th grade but excel by the time we finish 10th grade. In Language Use we are progressing but there is still room for improvement, hopefully this years use of "no red ink" will aid students with their use of English.
Next week on Friday 3rd November we will be holding our first parent teacher conference of the year. The conferences will take place at school in the teacher's’ classroom. You may choose to book up to three appointments with teachers. The bookings can be made below by following the links.

Many thanks to Mr. Bray and the team of photographers who made this possible.
Here's a good one that talks about how getting a slightly-low amount of sleep over a long period of time has a big cumulative detrimental effect on performance, and it's not something that can be wiped out by one good night of rest:
I particularly like this last bit of the article:
"Consider a key finding from Van Dongen and Dinges’s study: after just a few days, the four- and six-hour group reported that, yes, they were slightly sleepy. But they insisted they had adjusted to their new state. Even 14 days into the study, they said sleepiness was not affecting them. In fact, their performance had tanked. In other words, the sleep-deprived among us are lousy judges of our own sleep needs. We are not nearly as sharp as we think we are."http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/17/magazine/mag-17Sleep-t.html#story-header
Today all 26 Houses introduced themselves in a 60 second video! Enjoy!
