On Wednesday, March 23 CDS traveled across town to take on SIS in a KAIAC swimming event. The CDS students had been training hard after suffering defeat in their first heat of the year. Although the swimmers performed well, lead by senior Jim Lee, there was no overall winners on the day. They will take to the water next on April 6, when they travel to SFS for the next meet.
Today Ms. Joo, Mrs. Navarro, Mr. Chapa and Mr. Tolley called for a meeting with all the participants of World Experience Tour to Madrid. Our 36 students arrived enthusiastically to the Small Theatre speaking Spanish, showing a big smile on their faces. Students received detailed information about all the delicious Spanish food, amazing cultural events and beautiful places we will be experiencing while We are in Spain. For many, this will be the first time travelling to Europe and we have the intention to make it an unforgettable event. Each teacher will be coaching 9 students who will in turn collaborate together to fulfill several roles. Our trip has a clear cultural approach, and so each student will be asked to pay attention to what represents the Spanish culture as seen from their eyes. Every day students will be asked to play several roles as special travellers: we will have some writers, video recorders, camera men/women, speakers, editors, etc. The idea is to use every opportunity to learn from what we are experiencing while we are travelling. Once we come back to Korea our intention is to create a book about our Madrid trip where students and teachers will be sharing a once in a lifetime experience together. Feliz viajes a todos ️⭐️ The CDS boys soccer team traveled to Dwight this week to face their toughest competitor this season. The sun was shining in anticipation of the contest. Quickly after kickoff, Dwight struck first when the back line failed to clear a corner. The boys played very strongly following this mishap, controlling the tempo and possession of the game. Louis Yeo played, what his coaches are describing as, the best game of his high school career. Louis recorded some huge stops on two breakaway occasions.
Moments to go in the first half, Taeho Kim was taken down in the box for a penalty. With poise, Bumjoon Kim, making his season debut at center midfield, buried the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to tie it up 1-1. With this goal, Bumjoon now has the 3rd most points (goals & assists) in Dalton history. In the second, the midfield tightened up and began winning the 50/50 balls. The all senior backline played another strong game shutting down and frustrating the Dwight attackers. 8th grader Jungmin Kim, making his first varsity start, played a phenomenal game lacing through balls and even scoring the go ahead goal on a laced strike from 20 yards out. Unfortunately, the goal was called back for a questionable off the ball foul. Sophomore Ryan Park and Senior Jung Hwang both played gallantly in their Dalton debuts. The game would end in a 1-1 tie. While we dominated the play, we simply could not close out the game. We are looking forward to another shot at Dwight midway through April. Your Dalton Pheonix now sit 1-1-0 with a few weeks to recover and return faster, stronger and more determined when spring break comes to a close. Coach Musselman ![]() March 18th - April 14th For the second year in a row, a group of seniors have chosen to exhibit their art and design based Senior Projects in the CDS Gallery. Featured works include excerpts from the portfolio of Chaeyeun Ahn, a steam-punk calendar designed by Yewon Ryoo, a large-scale collage by Caroline Kim, and a home designed by Jinee Park. An interview with participating students is forthcoming. Please check back soon under our News and Review page. Tuesday March 15th the twenty member CDS choir traveled to Chadwick international school to participate in the KAIAC/KIMEA Choral Festival. The students were accompanied by pianist Jaewon Shin. Upon arrival at Chadwick the students first warmed-up and ran through their pieces once, next the choir was brought into the recital hall where they performed three selections from their repertoire. Following the performance the students were brought into another room where they worked with one of the judges in a clinic setting. All the students worked extremely hard in this clinic and truly gave it their all in the performance. The students were awarded a silver ranking and were complimented on their high energy and enthusiasm.
On Wednesday the start of the soccer season finally arrived and both the varsity teams boarded the bus for the long trek to Pyeongtaek. Coaches Musselman and Laders have been assisted in the preparation for the season by coaches Talbot and Cate and all were optimistic of a successful(fun) season.
Under the joint captaincy of Vivian Lew and Sarah Lee the girls had a rough first match against Pyeongtaek , losing 5-0. With that being said, Kyungmin Park had a fantastic first game, with nearly 20 shots saved. The next game will be against Dwight school on Tuesday, and we are hoping for a better outcome! The Boys kicked off the 2016 season with a huge W in our first ever KAIAC division match. The pre-season conditioning really payed off as only 13 boys made the trip to Peongtaek. The back line played a superb game, shutting down must of the opportunities quickly. The newcomers to the squad played a big role in this win, ninth grader Eric Kang netted two beauties on passes from YS Jeon and Tony Shin. Taeho Kim, Hongjun Lee, and Jungmin Kim also made contributions in their varsity debut. The dagger was scored by YS Jeon on a beautiful cross from the right side by the senior captain, Jun Woo Lee. It was a brilliant start to the season, but there will be more formidable opponents ahead. Up next we have Dwight who is sure to be our greatest challenge this year.
