Over the next 2 weeks the 10th grade students will be performing their adaptations of MacBeth during EC time. These are a real highlight of the year as the students have worked so hard to write, direct, produce them. Parents are welcome to attend these performances.
February 2016, a collection of photographs taken by the photography club was proudly displayed in the CDS gallery. It was the second student run exhibit in the CDS history. The following is an interview with the organizer of the photography exhibition.
Q. Nice to meet you, Mark. Please briefly introduce yourself.
A. Hello, my name is Mark Chang and I am currently in 11th grade. Until now I have been taking pictures for about ten years. I started taking pictures since I was in China.
Q. What triggered your interest in photography?
A. When I was in China, people around me introduced me photography. The idea of leaving one’s memory behind in a photograph made me think more deeply upon the field of photography.
Q. In the photography club, what do the members usually do?
A. We have five members at the moment, and these members include: Taehoon, Roy, Steven, James and myself. We usually take pictures according to the topics that I give to the members. Then, we share the pictures we took and give critiques and compliments to each other.
Q. What do you normally criticise or compliment about?
A. I criticise or compliment the angles they take and question them if the photographs have some kind of meaning behind. If it doesn’t have any meaning, then the photograph doesn’t mean anything.
Q. Why did you decide to hold a photography exhibition?
A. We decided to hold an exhibition because the photography club had to to do something in order to show the progress.
Q. What expectations do you have for those who visit the exhibition?
A. I expect the audience to feel some kind of emotion from the pictures in the exhibition. Any emotion will be fine.
Q. Out of many photographs, which piece stands out to you?
A. I think every piece stands out to me. Everybody has a different perspective when they look at different photographs.
Q. Are you planning to continue your photography activities in the future as well?
A. Yes, I will do at least something related to that, either as a hobby or a career.
Q. Lastly, what words would you like to deliver to the readers?
It’s worth a visit, so please come to see the photographs and have fun.

This week the CDS swim team made their first appearance in a KAIAC swim tournament. 12 members of Middle and High School travelled to YISS to participate. Although we had no winners it was a great learning experience with all members enjoying the experience and being impressed by the standards on display.
The CDS Visual Arts program would like to invite you to participate in our upcoming Silent Art Auction in March! For the last three years CDS students in the First Program, Middle School, and High School have donated pieces of artwork to be sold to raise funds for a charitable cause. Last year we raised over ₩750,000 collectively!
This year all proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Program REACH Foundation. They work in collaboration with the Dream Up ( 꿈을 키우는 집) orphanage in Suwon, and their organization helps support and mentor teens as they age out of the child welfare system. Program REACH offers classes and mentorship to help support these teens as well as aiding them in basic education expenses (exams, certification etc...).
This is a fantastic opportunity to not only showcase your skills, but to utilize those skills in a way that will impact and improve the lives of others.
This week 2 CDS students had the honor of representing CDS in the KIMEA National Honor Choir. This meant they successfully auditioned among all the international schools in Korea and had the opportunity to participate in 2 days of rehearsals and workshops which culminated with a superb concert. Hopefully the efforts of 10th grade Yeongseo Bak and 11th grade Juwon Kim will inspire more students to audition next year.
