Cheongna Dalton School have been invited to participate in the 5th Annual Korean Science Olympiad on Saturday February 27th, 2016 hosted at Dwight School Seoul. If you have a passion for science and want to display your scientific prowess, join in for this year’s interscholastic competition. Students interested in participating in the competition need to sign up on the high school website by January 22nd. The fee to join is 20,000 KRW each and will cover transport and lunch.
The competition is divided into three sections:
Written test: Students will each take an individual test. Students in grade 9 and 10 will take the general science test. Grade 11 and 12 will have a choice between Physics, Chemistry and Biology test. The test questions will be comprised of a mixture of IB/SAT test style questions. Awards will be awarded to the top 3 students for each subject.
Brain bowl: The second part of the KSO will consist of a "brain bowl" - style quiz activity. Each school will nominate 4 students to participate as a team and represent their school. Each school needs to have at least one student from grade 9-10 on their team at all times. Substitutions are allowed in-between rounds. The brain bowl will consist of quiz-type questions ranging from general science knowledge and science trivia. Teams will buzz in to answer questions and score tallies will be kept.
Group activity: Groups will work together as a team and make use of their scientific knowledge and skills to successfully complete the designated task. The topic of this year's group activity will be released on the day of the competition.
The theme of this year's spirit week is creativity. However, by dressing based on themes we will be building the schools spirit and helping new students to quickly feel part of the community.
The themes for the days are as follows
Monday-Crazy hair & pyjama day
Tuesday-Flashback (retro day)
Wednesday-School color day
(We have a home basketball game and expect a record crowd)
Thursday-Grade Character Day
Posters will display the themes and announcements will be made each morning of the following day's theme.
Put your public speaking prowess to the test!
On JANUARY 23rd, CDS will host its second annual public speaking competition. High school students will be invited to compete from 9am-1pm.
Students will compete in all three areas: Prepared Speeches, Drama, and Debate.
AWARDS will be presented to the winners!
